December 9, 2007 - Hello from Kincardine

I have been busy since August working the 2008 Kincardine Women’s Triathlon and it is all set to go for July 19, 2008.  Registration will open on January 1st

A few changes have been made for 2008.  First, the Race start will be a half hour earlier at 9:00 a.m.   This time was preferred by over 98% of all women who responded to a survey I sent out in August.  We are hoping that the earlier start will give us a calmer lake and of course temperatures will also be slightly cooler for the bike and run.

And wet suit pick-up will be available on the Friday before the Race from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Race Site.

I would like to take this time to share a bit of News with you.   For seven years now I have been dedicated to the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon.  I have valued this opportunity to give women the opportunity for self-empowerment.  Women who otherwise may not even consider the sport of Triathlon as a means of changing not only their physical ability but their emotional health too have been able to succeed on both levels.  It has been a truly wonderful experience as I have always taken this role very personally.

This summer – right about the same time as the 2008 Race, I will become a grandmother for the second time in 20 months!  We are all thrilled.  I have however, after much deliberation, come to the conclusion that I would like to take the energy and time I have been devoting to the Triathlon and focus it on my family.

I am pleased to announce that Kincardine Triathlon Club member Laura Trepanier has agreed to step-up to the position of Race Director.  Laura, an Ironwoman now, got her start in Triathlon by competing in the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon!   Laura will have the support of the existing KWT Race Committee.

This transition is very important to me as I have given so much of myself to this Race during the last seven years.  I need only look at the accomplishments of the KWT to feel pride in the Race:  The KWT has provided over 1200 women with the opportunity to improve both their physical and emotional health.  It has put the town of Kincardine on the map as host to the premier Women's Tri in Canada (according to both the Ontario Association of Triathletes and Triathlon Canada).  A total of $40,000 has been raised for the March of Dimes  Assistive Devices program which converted to $249,903 of services and benefits to those in our community less physically less fortunate than the Women who participate in the Race. In addition over $5,000 has been donated to the local organizations who support the KWT on Race Day: the Bruce Shrine Club, Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band, Bruce Amateur Radio Club, Kincardine Fire Department, Ontario Provincial Police, Kincardine, and the Kincardine Triathlon Club.  It has been a terrific seven years.

It has been a terrific seven years.

While I will miss my involvement with all of the women who race I am satisfied that I have given all I could to them and my community as Race Director.

Effective December 15th the email, womenstriathlon@tnt21.com will be received by Laura.  If you wish to email me on a personal level please use richards@tnt21.com.
