August 5, 2007 - 2007 Kincardine Women's Tri Final News!
CONGRATULATIONS!
The 2007 Kincardine Women's Triathlon while possibly the wettest, was the best
yet! 261 women registered well in advance for the most successful Race Day we
have had in Kincardine and a terrific test of physical and emotional endurance
for themselves. Thanks to our 150 volunteers we were able to provide a great
experience before, during and post-race.
As many of you know, my goal has been to provide all participants with the best
possible experience, to enable all of you to feel the empowerment of a
successful effort and reap the rewards afterwards, with medals, plaques,
certificates and prizes. In short to experience personally and collectively that
feeling of accomplishment - the real reward for a job well done. I have had the
benefit of working with an outstanding Organizing Committee, all sharing the
same cause and once again I believe we have met our goal.
I hope you all take the energy you channelled into this year's Kincardine
Women's Triathlon and use it to maintain and even improve your physical and
emotional strength in years ahead.
Thanks to your participation the Kincardine Women's Triathlon was able to donate
$8,000 to the Ontario March of Dimes Assistive Devices Program this year. Our
cumulative donation to the OMOD is now $40,000. Through a generous funding
formula the OMOD has provided additional funding of $209,903 in order to provide
127 Kincardine area residents with 250 devices provided to meet their basic and
essential mobility and home safety needs worth a total value of $249,903 since
our first race.
Key Sponsors of the Seventh Annual Kincardine Women's Tri included the
following: Piller's who once again provided a fantastic Post-Race BBQ for women
and volunteers. A Shot-On-Site again wowed the women with terrific photos,
capturing the success of their day for them. D'ornellas Bike Shop again provided
Wetsuit Rentals for our women so that they could be assured of a safe swim and
post-race could purchase tri gear on site. And the day wouldn't have been
possible without the financial support from Bruce Power, Matchett Financial
Services, a key sponsor for seven years, first time sponsor MEG Realty of
Kincardine, Dynamic Funds, AIM/Trimark Funds and others. Grey-Bruce Heart Health
and Ontario Power Generation again provided one of our tents and waterbottles
for participants and volunteers. First time sponsor Saucony not only provided a
tent for our use but set up their own with lots of gear and shoes for sale and
provided a super new "Racer of the Day" prize awarded to a randomly chosen
Finisher. Super Tri gear prizes were provided by Martin's Cycle in Southampton
and Running Skirts. Local businesses fully supported the event not only with
prizes but in our ever growing Expo with displays featuring product samples and
items for purchase; these included Fine Fettle and Bev Yundt's Noni of
Kincardine, Scoreboard Sports Too from Port Elgin and Mary Kay by Charlene
Randle-Clayton. Breakfast and other food items were supplied locally by Zehrs,
Foodland, Sobey's, and Tim Horton's. Volunteers won prizes from many local
sponsors.
This year's volunteers from the community included many individuals both new and
past supporters as well as the Bruce Shrine Club, The Kincardine Amateur Radio
Club, the OPP Rescue Boat, Kincardine Rescue Boat, Bannerman Construction and
The Boy Scouts. Co-operation from residents along the Race Route was
appreciated. The KWT is fully support by the Parks Dept. of the Town of
Kincardine through their thorough set-up of the Transition Area and Road
Closures.
And of course members of the Kincardine Triathlon Club help assure that all of
you have a safe race.
