Kincardine Women's Triathlon

2007 Kincardine Women’s Triathlon

The 2007 Kincardine Women's Triathlon while possibly the wettest, was the best yet!  261 women registered well in advance for the most successful Race Day yet and a terrific test of physical and emotional endurance for themselves.  Thanks to 150 volunteers the KWT was able to provide a great experience before, during and post-race.

Since inception, the goal of Race Director, Patti Richards, has been to provide all participants with the best possible experience, to enable all participants to feel the empowerment of a successful effort and reap the rewards with medals, plaques, certificates and prizes.  In short to experience personally and collectively that feeling of accomplishment - the real reward for a job well done.  Patti has had the benefit of working with an outstanding Organizing Committee, all sharing the same goal and all thrilled to have once again achieved that goal with great success.

Even more thrilling is the substantial benefit to the Ontario March of Dimes Assistive Devices Program, the Kincardine Women’s Triathlon’s Charity of Choice.  The 2007 donation of $8,000 brings the cumulative donation to the OMOD to $40,000.  Through a generous funding formula the OMOD matched this amount with an additional $209,903 in order to provide 127 Kincardine area residents with 250 devices provided to meet their basic and essential mobility and home safety needs worth a total value of $249,903.

This is a tremendous payback to the Kincardine community.  Helping to make this possible were the efforts of the many volunteers and support of the KWT sponsors.

Financial support was received from Bruce Power, Matchett Financial Services, a key sponsor for seven years, first time sponsor MEG Realty of Kincardine, AIM/Trimark, Dynamic Funds, Fidelity Investments, the Royal Canadian Legion, BMTS, CIBC and Mackhall Mobility.  Key Site Sponsors of the Seventh Annual Kincardine Women's Tri included Piller's, A Shot-On-Site Photography and D'ornellas Bike Shop, Grey-Bruce Heart Health and Ontario Power Generation and Saucony.  Local businesses fully supported the event through an ever-growing "Expo" featuring product samples and items for purchase; these included Fine Fettle and Bev Yundt's Noni of Kincardine, Scoreboard Sports Too from Port Elgin and  Zehrs, Foodland, Sobey's, and Tim Horton's.   Volunteers won prizes from many local sponsors.

This year's volunteers from the community included many individuals both new and past supporters as well as the Bruce Shrine Club, The Kincardine Amateur Radio Club, the OPP Rescue Boat, Kincardine Rescue Boat, Bannerman Construction and The Boy Scouts.  Co-operation from residents along the Race Route was appreciated.  This event is fully support by the Parks Dept. of the Town of Kincardine through their thorough set-up of the Transition Area and Road Closures.  And of course without members of the Kincardine Triathlon Club this Event would not have been the same.

Mark your calendars now for July 19, 2008, the Eighth Annual Kincardine Women's Triathlon.
