Triathlon Wetsuit Guide

Putting on a wetsuit
When putting on a wetsuit you want to start with the feet first. It is easiest to do this when seated. Start by pointing your toes and sliding them through the ends. Once your feet are through you will want to stand up and begin to pull the wetsuit up by the waist. Be careful not to use your nails while doing this because they can puncture the suit. Instead, use the pads of your fingers to pinch the suit and pull up. For the arms you want to do the same thing as your legs. Start by putting your hand through, then work the suit up the arms and finally over the shoulders. If the suit is feeling too restrictive in the shoulders, start back at the wrist pulling the sleeves up a little higher. If the suit is tight in the crotch area, start at the ankles and pull the legs of the wetsuit up.

Tips:

  1. Use Body Glide or a similar product to make sliding your arms and legs in easier. Make sure the product you use is not petroleum based, like Vaseline, as this will ruin the neoprene.
  2. Use Body Glide or a similar product on your neck to prevent the wetsuit from aggravating your neck when you turn your head to breathe.
  3. Use a plastic grocery bag around your feet and hands to ease sliding them through the suit.

Taking off a wetsuit
Taking off a wetsuit is much easier and quicker than putting it on. Start with the arms and pull them out one at a time. This is done easiest by pulling the suit inside out as you take your arm out. You want to do the same with the legs. The legs are easiest if you pull the suit down to your ankles, then step on the left leg with the right foot and pull the left leg out. Repeat this for the right leg.

Tips:

  1. Use Body Glide or a similar product to make sliding your arms and legs out easier.
